When using an external editor to edit code, but still executing and
compiling code in the PDE, the code is not updating in the text area of the
PDE.
Debugging and interpreting compile errors is much more difficult when the
wrong part of code is highlighted in the PDE. This was a problem in 123 and
persists in 124.

found and fixed for 0125, thanks for the report. turns out to be a
regression from an attempted simplification.
