this is dependent on the switch to Java 1.4, which has better timing
mechanisms than the other versions. we've not yet decided whether to make
the jump for Processing 1.0, since this is a minor issue compared to
cutting out 10-20% of web users.

Fixed for release 0145, which requires Java 1.5.
