lots of tweaks to this, but still seems to have trouble sometimes.

the jedit syntax package is fairly buggy, this might just be one of those
things.

There aren't consistent steps to reproduce, but it's a real problem. The
main issue is that the horizontal scrollbar might appear or disappear at
random during the course of using the environment. It also sometimes locks
such that the ~5px margin on the left goes missing.
