When I exit from the Processing program (processing.exe) the application
appears to close but its Windows process does not go away. Each time I run
Processing I see another copy -- they are not reused. This has nothing to
do with any sketch, and appears if you simply launch Processing then
immediately close it.

I'm running Processing 1.1 under Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, Service
Pack 3, on a Toshiba Portege M200 Tablet PC. I only notice this bug with
Sysinternals Process Explorer from Microsoft. When Processing closes it
disappears from Windows Task Manager.

I also see this behavior with Arduino (versions 17 and 18, the only two
I've tried), which is based on Processing. And, as I said in the Summary, I
don't know if this is a bug with Processing/Arduino or with Java itself.

Thanks.

hm, what sort of memory is it taking up at that point? i wonder if just the
shell app isn't quitting properly, even though the java runtime has unwound
itself.
This bug is now being tracked here.
