there seems to be a bug in Apple's Java 1.4.1 (versus 1.4.2 which is found
on 10.3.x) that prevents it from using full screen mode properly. the
screen goes blank and sometimes the applet might flicker up, but it just
doesn't seem to work.
verified that sun's demos break too, so it doesn't appear to be a
